There are many resources available to small groups that can be found by searching the Internet. Here are a few choices that our leadership has personally gone though as has found useful. Contact Jerry Shore at 234-2907, cell 906-0218, or
to get more information about any of these studies.
These will be sent to small group leaders before or quickly after the Sunday service. We recommend groups use sermon applications as a first choice to your discussions for the following reasons:
- Applying biblical precepts is the main way we grow spiritually spiritually, increasing the value of Christ in our lives
- Your discussions will link you to the pastor's ministry of preaching biblical precepts
- Applications will be apparent as sermons at Shannon typically are gospel-centered, convicting, and personally instructive
- It is easy on your group as they will have already heard the sermon and will be prepared to discuss it
The Gospel-Centered Life
This is a nine-lesson small group study to understand how the gospel shapes every aspect of life. The study is available at World Harvest Mission's Bookstore
Living in the Light of the Gospel Story
This is a six-lesson study of foundational gospel truths. Appropriate for Christians at all levels of spiritual maturity. The study is available at World Harvest Mission's Bookstore
An eight-lesson small group study featuring Ken Sande teaching the biblical principles of personal peacemaking (Four additional sessions are included as an option for groups that want to dig deeper). Each session begins with a 25-minute video. Participants can then spend the rest of the session discussing and applying the ideas presented, guided by the thought provoking questions and suggestions contained in the companion Participant Guide. The church owns the DVD set (contact Ruth Clayton at 678-5100 or
to check it out of the office). The leader's guide and participant guides are available at http://www.peacemaker.net.
Desiring God Study Guides
At the Desiring God site, you can find many free study guides on a variety of biblical topics. Videos on John Piper's teaching on each subject are also available for purchase. We recommend that you download a leader's and participant's guide of your chosen topic; then look it over to see if the questions can be addressed without viewing the video. Additionally, Piper has written over 50 books, many of which can be used for a small group study. Be careful to avoid his books of theological topics, which can be difficult to extract practical applications. One that is particularly good for application is 'What Jesus Demands From the World', which is also in study guide form.
Inductive Bible Studies
A member of our church has completed many inductive Bible studies that he has outlined and made available for use below:
PCA Study Guides and Other Resources
At the PCA Christian Education and Publications website, you can find many invaluable resources. One such resource is the Adult Biblical Education Series. Its Video Library is another particularly useful area on the site. You can find one on their site and order these through the church office (contact Ruth Clayton at 678-5100 or
